VBS Idea - Follow-Up Club for Kids

This idea is reprinted from the Best Proven Ideas gathered at Children's Pastors' Conferences from 1990-1994.

We were concerned about our lack in following up the decisions children made in Vacation Bible School each year. Suddenly VBS was over and the children had no chance to grow in their new commitments.

Kid's Klub has helped us meet that need. Each child who has received Christ as Savior in VBS or has demonstrated a hunger to grow in Christ, receives a personal invitation to Kid's Klub. This begins two weeks following VBS and runs for six sessions. (These can be held one morning each week for six weeks, or two mornings a week for three weeks.) In Kid's Klub the children are discipled in their walk with Christ. Then they prepare to share these Bible truths with spiritually needy people. On the first day they prepare to go to a rest home or to an inner city program where they will share what they've learned with others. They also prepare crafts or make food items to take and share. They go to their place of outreach during each alternate session. As we encourage our children to focus on the needs of others and make themselves available to God to be used in touching others, they themselves grow in Christ.

Maryann E. Samms, 1991
