An envelope arrived last week containing a 2010 calendar which I immediately displayed near my desk. The Outlook software provides my primary scheduling approach, but this new paper calendar feels like a clean slate. January often marks fresh starts related to diets and exercise. We also set spiritual goals. INCM will post a daily Bible reading plan, created by Deb Galyen, a missionary to Spain. It's not too late to put the spiritual and professional growth opportunities at CPC'10 www.incm.org/cpc.html on your calendar. This month's Insight includes relevant ideas to consider for 2010.
Another New Year's resolution I want to offer deals with social networking. We may use this tool to stay connected with friends, but have you noticed comments that seem to have no regard for the person or ministry referenced? Would these opinions be expressed in face-to-face conversations? A camp director told me about a statement that was posted about another camp. Both camps have positive features, yet a negative comment was sent around the world with one push of a button. Addressing this subject may set me up for criticism, but I don't think we can ignore what seems to be a growing practice. I want to suggest that we add a Philippians 4:8 filter to our computers and phones, "…whatever is true, whatever is noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things." In 2010, let's allow the world to read our faith in Christ. Have a refreshing New Year!
